Experiencing the Monaco Yacht Show

31 августа 2017
With less than a month until the Monaco Yacht Show 2017, held from 27 to 30 September in Monaco’s Port Hercules, the IYC team is looking forward to what is widely considered to be the superyacht industry’s most important and spectacular show. With an impressive yacht lineup and busy calendar, the 2017 edition of the show looks set to be one of the best to date. IYC will be exhibiting on a large, central stand (QT19) on the T-dock, with an exciting fleet that includes 77.4m M/Y Legend, 70.11m M/Y Martha Ann, 61.8m M/Y Sealyon, 49.75m M/Y I Nova and 44m M/Y Bliss. All impressive vessels, each has its own unique qualities that are sure to attract large numbers of visitors during the show.
The huge variety of yachts on offer – the IYC fleet included – is a key reason that the show is so highly anticipated by all visitors, the IYC team included. “I expect the 2017 show to be a really interesting one as there are many fantastic yachts offered for sale,” says Marat Urusov of IYC Russia. Monaco is the ultimate showcase for the really large yachts and also for new products and trends,” concurs Mark Elliott, IYC Sales and Charter Consultant. “I am looking forward to the opportunity to sell my listings and to seeing new yachts.” Elliott is excited about seeing Legend on display, dubbing her a one-of-a-kind and a must see. “Legend is truly unique… she’s the first yacht I have ever been on board that carries snowmobiles!” he says.

The show is particularly notable for its capacity for displaying such a large number of bigger yachts, including IYC’s listings Legend, Martha Ann and Sealyon which will be some of the largest yachts on show in 2017. “MYS is almost the only place where the owners can fully show off their big and luxury brokerage vessels available for sale,” says Urusov. “It is the biggest show both in terms of the yachts’ sizes and as the most important event in international superyacht industry.”

Though tailored to consumers, the show is also an important tool for professionals looking to keep their finger on the pulse of the industry. “Attending the MYS is very important from an educational standpoint,” says Michael Rafferty, IYC Sales Consultant. “Being familiar with the latest new builds and the latest significant brokerage yachts to come on the market is valuable information that we use the entire year and share with our clients.” For Rafferty both the location and the show’s extensive offering is what makes the event so special. The highlight of MYS is being able to see a great many of the finest yachts in one place in a short period of time,” he says. “Whether you are directly involved with working in the industry or you just enjoy yachting, Monaco is a very unique venue that makes work or play enjoyable.”

With so much to see and do, strategising your time at the show is a good tactic, and IYC brokers have their top recommendations on how to make the most of the show. “Plan your viewings with as much advance notice as possible as appointments get filled up fast and you don’t want to miss out,” says Elliott. Urusov agrees: “Make sure you make appointments on the yachts you want to visit, especially those yachts making their debut as they prove the most popular!” he says. While there are many yachts that command instant attention, Rafferty suggests keeping an open mind when selecting which yachts to view. “When it comes to the ‘must see’ yachts, besides the new builds from all the quality yards, there are always surprise yachts that you would not have seen or thought about unless you attend the show, so always keep an open mind,” he says.

As well as yachts, Monaco has built a reputation for a buzzing social calendar with a huge number of parties and events, and plenty of opportunities to discover Monaco itself. “MYS offers the largest and most entertaining parties and networking opportunities in the industry so after sunset make sure you attend the highlights of the social calendar,” says Urusov. “Some things I have learned about navigating the show and Monaco in general is allow plenty of time and learn about restaurants and hotels slightly off the beaten path,” adds Rafferty.

With so much to see and do, getting around the show can be a feat in itself. “With the hundreds of boats that might be in the anchorage during the show, it takes all day, every day to see everything you might be interested in,” says Rafferty “During the heat of the day enjoy the indoor exhibits and maybe a cold glass of rose in the air conditioning. But most of all, have fun!”
